On October 16-18, 2026, the Hovhannes Sharambeyan Museum of Folk Arts in Yerevan will host an academic conference entitled “Armenian Folk and Decorative-Applied Arts” within the framework of events marking the centenary of the prominent advocate of folk art, Hovhannes Sharambeyan. The conference is dedicated to the International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage, proclaimed by UNESCO. Its primary aim is to present in a new light the rich heritage of folk and decorative-applied arts preserved in Armenia’s museums, and, on the basis of museum collections, to address key issues related to the history and theory of Armenian folk art while proposing possible solutions. The conference will include discussions on various aspects of safeguarding intangible cultural heritage, including studies of museum and private collections, works by folk masters, research on decorative art genres and artists, as well as themes such as design, digitalization, education, and creative industries.
